In addition to age, what are Social Security benefits based on?
The programs of social securities are adopted in most of the countries of today's world. It's natural for a state to help its citizens to develop and offer different advantages. The original Social Security program of the US started in 1935.
Social security benefits are calculated by the Social Security Administration by averaging someone's highest 35 years of inflation adjusted covered earnings from throughout his/her entire working life regardless of when they may have occurred.

Gary Chadwick, I don't mind questions that are specific to USA or that give Americans an advantage, but the least the questioner might do is specify the country. There are other countries. I made this point to management re another question and was told I was being pernickety. I beg to differ,

It also depends on the purpose. If you have a disability that prevents you from getting a regular job, you can get Social Security in US. The problem with that is you will get barely enough to pay bills

I started drawing social security over twenty years ago. My last 10 years were my highest earning years and that was what was used. My wife retired shortly after me and only earned enough to qualify for four years', so isn't eligible to draw anything. Our annual statements consistently say the same. I don't understand where the 30 or 35 year figures are coming from, therefore I selected the third option because that was the figure the author used in his narrative.
