In Greek mythology, which god transformed himself into a ram to avoid being discovered?
In Greek mythology, King Bisaltes of Thracian Macedonia was the father of a beautiful daughter named Theophane. Suitors from across the ancient world would flock to Bisaltes in an attempt to wed Theophane. But in addition to human suitors, the god Poseidon lusted after her, abducted her, and together the couple escaped and were soon on the island of Crumissa (also, Crinissa).
The disappearance of Theophane caused a stir and soon the suitors left behind, were on the trail of the daughter. When the suitors arrived on the island of Crumissa, to confuse the suitors, Poseidon transformed himself into a ram, and Theophane into a ewe plus all of the inhabitants of Crumissa were changed into cattle and sheep.
Even though the suitors didn’t find anybody on the island, they setup camp and to sustain themselves, they commenced to eat the animals they found on the island. Poseidon then decided to transform the suitors of Theophane into wolves.
Poseidon and Theophane produced one child, a golden ram, the Crius Chrysomallus.
