"Mean Girls" is a 2004 American teen comedy film directed by Mark Waters, and written by Tina Fey. Starring as the girls (from left to right) are Lacey Chabert, Rachel McAdams, Lindsay Lohan, and Amanda Seyfried.

The film is based in part on Rosalind Wiseman's 2002 non-fiction self-help book, "Queen Bees and Wannabes", which describes female high school social cliques and the damaging effect they can have on girls. Fey also drew from her own experience at Upper Darby High School in Pennsylvania as an inspiration for some of the concepts in the film. The female high school clique in "Mean Girls" is called The Plastics.

During the film, the audience learns the Winter Talent Show is an annual event at North Shore High School. Every year The Plastics perform "Jingle Bell Rock" and have been credited as being Santa's Helpers for the Show. Principal Duvall hosts the event.

While performing "Jingle Bell Rock", Gretchen Wieners (Lacey Chabert) accidently kicks the radio, which makes the music track stop. Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) jumps in to save the act with her own voice and barely pulls it off. The film did not show who the winner of this talent show was, but judging solely by the audience's reaction, it's presumed that The Plastics won the competition this time as well.

Released on 30 April 2004, the film grossed US$130 million worldwide and developed a cult following.
