In Roman Mythology, the God of War is Mars (like Ares in Greek Mythology). Mars was the second important God and the main protector of the Roman soldiery.

Ancient Romans believed in Mars as in the God of War.He was the second important God after Jupiter and protected the Roman soldiery. Even being compared with the Greek God, Mars differed a lot from Ares, who was considered to be the destructive and evil force. In his turn, Mars protected the Roman soldiers from death and helped them in maintaining peace.
