In Scent of a Woman (1992), Frank Slade (Al Pacino) brings his temporary caretaker, Charlie (Chris O'Donnell) with him to New York. Frank has reserved a room at the Waldorf-Astoria. During their first night in the city, it is marked by having a casual dinner at the Oak Room, which soon turns disturbing after Frank informs Charlie of his "plan".

But just after these two individuals get to the grand, opulent and elegant eating establishment, they sit down and obtain menus. This is when Charlie notes that a hamburger costs twenty-four dollars ($24.00) . He then asks, "Frank how can you now afford to pay for our meal." Frank tells Charlie that he has been saving up his money. You must have money to eat in this place.

The Oak Room was known as an iconic institution; it had elite style. It was a place that lived up to high expectations. Its reputation was one that was second to none for fine dining (matchless or unequaled in 1992 when the film, Scent of a Woman was shot).
