In television advertisements for what brand of salad dressing was the phrase, "Who made the salad"?
People who watched American television in the 1970s probably remember the salad dressing commercial with the line, "Who made the salad?". The answer came from the homemaker, "Me. And Seven Seas". The question became memorable.
Seven Seas is a brand of salad dressing now produced by Kraft Foods. While at Anderson-Clayton in the 1950s, Warren Leruth developed a pourable, nonseparating dressing that became the forerunner to Seven Seas salad dressing.
The original dressing produced by Seven Seas was Viva Italian. The brand has now grown to include several other flavors, each available in 16 oz. plastic bottles. Varieties now include: Red Wine Vinaigrette Reduced Fat, Red Wine Vinaigrette Fat Free and Green Goddess.
Several varieties have been discontinued, including: Cheddar & Wine Dressing, Thousand Island Dressing and Viva Creamy Italian.
