Before they make their great journey to Mordor to destroy the one ring of power by tossing it into Mount Doom, the Fellowship of the Ring, consisting of hobbits Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took, Gandalf the Wizard, Legolas the Elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Boromir of Gondor and Aragorn the Ranger and heir to the throne of Gondor are each given a parting gift from Galadriel, Elf Queen of Lothlorien.

The ever resourceful Samwise, Frodo's best friend and gardener, is given a length of elven rope - something that becomes enormously helpful when Frodo and Sam are separated from their companions. Navigating the treacherous mountain paths that lead into Mordor, Samwise uses the rope to navigate precipitous heights. The cool thing about that rope is once you tie it off, you can untie it was a simple tug - allowing you to continually take the rope with you, as opposed to leaving it behind and being ropeless and hopeless.

Note: the scene where Samwise gets his length of rope from Galadriel, plus a number of other gifting scenes from the elven queen, was cut from the release prints of the film, and only added in for the special DVD extended edition.
