"Amadeus" is a 1984 biographical film fiction about the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, which is written by Peter Shaffer. Taking liberties with historical accounts, the story is told from the point of view of Antonio Salieri, the court composer for Emperor Joseph II.

In the film, Salieri tells us that as a young man Mozart is his hero. When he told his father that he wished he could be like Mozart, his father said: "Why? Do you want to be a trained monkey? Would you like me to drag you around Europe, doing tricks like a circus freak?" Salieri's father hates music.

So in a flashback, Salieri is a teenager who is quite passionate about music. But his father has stern control over him. His father doesn't want him to pursue his passion for music. He makes it very hard for Salieri to learn music. He is jealous of Mozart because he learns that Mozart's father is actually teaching him about music. Salieri thinks that his dream of becoming a musician is out of reach.

He then makes a promise to God. He promises to be chaste and devoted if God makes him a famous musician. He wants his name to transcend time. When his father dies, Salieri sees it as a miracle and an answer to his prayers. Several years pass and he becomes a musician.

While Salieri is keeping his promise to God, he is living a good life in Vienna. When Mozart comes to Vienna, things change quickly for Salieri. Life becomes difficult for him. He has to do many things to try to undermine Mozart.
