In the film "Independence Day", what insect does the U.S. president compare the alien race to?
In the 1996 film "Independence Day" (ID4), U.S. President Thomas J. Whitmore (Bill Pullman) compared the Alien race to a insect well known to mankind. He said, “They're like locusts". He had to underscore to the public that the aliens were coming; their goal was to invade and destroy Earth.
The aliens don’t have much personality in "Independence Day". Just enough information has been revealed about them to put together a reasonable profile.
The aliens function like 'locusts', roaming the galaxy in search of planets that fit their needs. They go to a planet and kill all the inhabitants (if any) before consuming all the natural resources and moving on.
Biologically, the aliens aren’t too different from humans. They are slightly smaller in stature; they’re humanoid in form and vulnerable to many of the same physical threats. The biggest difference is that the aliens don’t have vocal cords. They communicate via telepathy or with some other mental transmission. The aliens' real strength comes from their technology. Their fragile bodies are encased in suits (bio-mechanical outfits) that give them increased durability and strength. Notwithstanding all of their features, they are still defeated by the humans.
