Well, the question is really tricky as it requires deep knowledge and understanding of history. In fact, George Bush Senior has been the only sitting vice-president to be elected president, in 1988, since Martin Van Buren in 1836. Other sitting vice-presidents such as Theodore Roosevelt, Lyndon Johnson and Gerald Ford, who became president, did so because of the death or resignation of their predecessor.
