In the movie 'Enemy Mine', what was Jeriba Shigan, played by Lou Gossett, Jr.?
'Enemy Mine' is a 1985 American science fiction action drama film directed by Wolfgang Petersen, based on Barry B. Longyear's novella of the same name. The film stars Dennis Quaid (Willis E. Davidge) and Louis Gossett Jr. (Jeriba 'Jerry' Shigan) as human and alien soldiers, respectively, who become stranded together on an inhospitable planet.
In the late 21st century Earth is invaded by Dracs, an alien race of reptilian humanoids. Incidentally, Dracs, both male and female, can reproduce asexually. Willis and Jerry are engaged in a dogfight, from which both crash land on Fyrine IV, a desolate planet. Separated, both are hunting each other for the kill but eventually agree they need each other, pitching a camp and staying put there indefinitely.
Eventually, Willis leaves camp hoping to find other humans who might take him and Jerry to their home planets. Instead he finds Scavengers, miners who use Dracs for slave labor, hence the title 'Enemy Mine'.
Willis returns to Jerry, only to find the latter is pregnant. Jerry later dies in childbirth, but not before making Willis swear to take the child, Zammis (Bumper Robinson), back to the Drac homeworld and recite the Jeriba lineage so the child can join Drac society. During Jerry's last days Willis learned the Drac language then raises Zammis, who calls him 'Uncle'.
After a scrape with the Scavengers, Willis eventually commandeers a personal spacecraft, taking Zammis to his home planet for a Drac initiation ceremony.
