On the NBC network from 1982 to 1987 the TV series "Remington Steele" had a main character, Steele (Pierce Brosnan), who is a serious Humphrey Bogart movie fan. He has five passports from five countries in five different names, all of which are characters played by Bogart.

During the entire run of the series, it centers around a female private eye named Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist). She runs the Remington Steele Detective Agency. This agency is named for a male detective; but, Remington Steele does not exist.

Holt invented a male boss to impress her sexist clients. A charming thief and con man came to the agency. He will become and function as the fictional Remington Steele. Over the course of the series, Holt and "Steele" team up to solve crimes and inevitably fall in love.

With its blend of wit, action and romance, the tongue-in-cheek action TV drama from the late 1980s on has been a hit and quite influential with pop cultures not only in the United States. Other social cultures in other places have also felt the influence, ideas, and personal philosophies presented in a positive way on "Remington Steele".
