In the song, Wolverton Mountain, Clifton Clowers has a pretty young daughter who has lips that taste like honey, according to the young man who is determined to make her his wife. The problem is that Mr. Clowers, who unfortunately is good with a gun and a knife, is not wanting a husband for his daughter quite yet and has put out a warning to those young men who might be wanting to court her to stay off his mountain. This particular young man has sworn to take his chances and climb that mountain even though he might lose his life.

The original song, "Wolverton Mountain" was written by Merle Kilgore, who was a nephew of the real Clifton Clowers, who lived on that mountain in Center Ridge, Arkansas. The song was later rewritten and sung by Claude King in 1962. It sat in the #1 spot on the Billboard country chart for 9 weeks and for 3 weeks was #6 on the pop chart.
