In the 2001 adventure film, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (also called Tomb Raider), Angelina Jolie portrays the character Lara Croft. Her father in the film is her real life father Jon Voight. The plot of the movie revolves around Lara Croft trying to obtain an ancient artifact from an enemy, the Illuminati.

To help her in her efforts to obtain success, she has a high-tech support team. They aid her as she travels to some exotic locales in search of the artifact, the Triangle. She takes a foray into a decrepit Asian temple guarded by lethal stone apes and other creatures that spring to life. Then finally, she goes to Siberia to get answers to the puzzle she faces.

Near the end of the film in key scene, Lara finds herself in a strange alternate existence facing her father Lord Richard Croft (Jon Voight). He explains that it is a "crossing" of time and space, and urges her to destroy the artifact, the Triangle, instead of using it to save his life. She does what her father says; she leaves him. In the end, she is successful over her tricky enemy.

It is also interesting to note that Jolie, starred in Tomb Raider (2001), two years after winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Girl, Interrupted.
