In 2001 Dennis Miller played the character of Zander Kelly in the movie "Joe Dirt". At the start of the film, David Spade as Joseph "Joe" Dirt (a janitor at a Los Angeles, CA radio station) is dragged by the producer of the studio into an on-the-air talk program of famous disc jockey, shock jock Zander Kelly. When listening to Joe's life story, both Zander and the radio audience find him an object of scorn. Later Joe's kindness, optimistic outlook on life, and magnanimous self deprecation wins them over. He captures their hearts and minds.

With this movie, it is one that is utterly focused on the actions of Joe Dirty. Role players (Dennis Miller, Adam Beach, Chris Walken, Jaime Pressly, Kid Rock, Brittany Daniel, and others) are quite funny and make up a good team of players to support Joe. In the end this film is a major success because of Joe's character. Some key items which help Joe are Kid Rock as Joe's rival for the affections of Brittany (Brandy), the use of Waaamburgers, French Cries, Weineken beer, and music by Def Leppard. The insults from Robby the douche bag, Dennis Miller as Zander, and Mr. Thesaurus, who are insulting while sounding like they are not really insulting anyone, don't take away from all the words and efforts of Joe. He is doing all that he does to find out about his parents who abandoned him at the age of eight.
