Lexington Market is a long-standing public market located on the west side of Baltimore, MD which has been in continuous operation since 1782. It is sometimes referred to as a place of flavors and flowers since its range of offerings encompasses most anything you might want for your home on a day-to-day basis. Clearly, it is one of the longest surviving commercial ventures in Baltimore if you consider its founding some nearly 235 years ago. Close your eyes and imagine all the horse-drawn carts delivering produce, meats and flowers in the days gone by and, if you must, draw a mental picture of the diesel-fueled trucks doing the same today.

The market, in its present location, is scheduled to be demolished starting in 2018 and rebuilt on an adjoining parcel of land as a 97,000 square feet market, the process taking about 26 months and costing an estimated $30M to $40M. In a rare case of good civic planning, the new market will be completed prior to demolishing the old location in order that the farmers and merchants can continue their operations essentially without disruption.
