In which country is the tradition of throwing old things from the window on New Year’s Eve?
Italians are known for being quite superstitious. The night of San Silvestro (New Year’s Eve) offers the perfect occasion to perform some traditional rites that are meant to bring about good fortune.
Throwing old things from the window is a custom which still alive in different parts of Italy, including large cities like Naples and Rome. At midnight, some Italians throw out the window old things (usually crockery). This ritual symbolizes that you let go of what is useless and that you get rid of evil (physical and moral) accumulated during the year, to make room for a fresh start.

SINCE I AM AN "OLD THING" BEING 80 YEARS OLD, I HOPE I DON'T GET THROWN OUT OF A WINDOW, THIS NEW YEAR'S EVE. FORTUNATELY I AM TOO HEAVY TO CARRY AND TOO BIG TO FIT THROUGH A WINDOW. HA HA HA.

I have lived in Italy since '84 and have never seen nor heard of this "tradition". Perhaps in the 21st century this is no longer done...
