In which decade was the Skateboard invented?
A skateboard is a type of sports equipment used primarily for the sport of skateboarding. It usually consists of a specially designed maplewood board combined with a polyurethane coating used for making smoother slides and stronger durability. Most skateboards are made with 7 plies of this wood.
Skateboarding started in California in the 1950's.The first skateboards were made from roller skates (attached to a board).
Skateboarding gained in popularity because of surfing; in fact, skateboarding was initially referred to as "sidewalk surfing". Initially, skateboards were handmade from wooden boxes and planks by individuals. As the sport became more popular, companies started manufacturing skateboards.

I am glad they were so popular after the innovation of the urethane wheel. Made some good money on them in the 1970s. I will turn 60 in about 2 weeks. I still own three. I still use my favorite board, a Powell Quicktail from 1978. I just saw one on eBay. It is selling for $550!

I never saw one until the 90's myself up til then it was the old metal skates I could never get to fit right..

As many people have already stated we took a pair of metal street skates that were clamped on to your shoes. There was a nut and bolt in a slot so you could adjust them to the size of your foot. If you took the nut and bolt out you could separate them. We nailed them onto a two-by-four, not a board, for our first skateboards. This was prior to the first commercial skateboard, which on Long Island was the Mustang. The Mustang skateboard was approximately 18" to 22" long with wooden wheels. We thought it was the best thing ever. 😁

Early crude versions of the skateboard appeared just after the turn of the century. For the 1950's to be the correct answer the question should have specified the modern skateboard. Another Carol Whites miss worded question.

In the early 1950s we would take a skate apart and put the toe on the front of a board and the heel on the back of the same board. Then we would put a stick so it was like a scooter neck with a handle on the top., It worked well if you and your family hadn't teh money to buy a scooter from the store. That was actually the start of 'skate boards.

James Edwards, I'm from Wisconsin as well, I was a child of the 60s and we called a 2X4 attached to roller skates a skate board. Also, roller skating was also know as skating, it only took common sense to figure out what kind of skating you were going to do.
