Cary Grant (born Archibald Alec Leach; January 18, 1904 – November 29, 1986) was an English-born American actor, known as one of classic Hollywood's definitive leading men. He was known for his transatlantic accent, debonair demeanor, light-hearted approach to acting, and sense of comic timing.

Grant was born in Horfield, Bristol. He became attracted to theater at a young age and began performing with a troupe known as "The Penders" at age six. At the age of 16, he went as a stage performer with the Pender Troupe for a tour of the US. After a series of successful performances in New York City, he decided to stay there. He established a name for himself in vaudeville in the 1920s and toured the United States before moving to Hollywood in the early 1930s.

Bristol is a city and county in South West England. The city borders North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, with the cities of Bath and Gloucester to the south-east and north-east, respectively. South Wales lies across the Severn estuary.

One of the UK's most popular tourist destinations, Bristol was selected in 2009 as one of the world's top ten cities by international travel publishers Dorling Kindersley in their "Eyewitness" series of travel guides. "The Sunday Times" named it as the best city in Britain in which to live in 2014 and 2017, and Bristol also won the EU's European Green Capital Award in 2015.

There was a wonderful documentary about his relationship with his Mother over the years. She was sent to a mental home for many years. He was told, at the age of 11, that his mother had 'gone to the seaside, and for many years he believed she had left him, and eventually died. At 30 years of age he found out she was still alive and set out to find her, and he did, still in a mental institution. He arranged for her release and he looked after her for the rest of her life.

I was a Post Offce Telephonist and once connected a transfer charge call from a Mr.Grant a gent with an American accent.Only found later it was Gary Grant,he was visiting our town in Wales on a flying visit.I was able through my job able to speak to many celebrities on the line but he was my idol
