The 1968 American biographical romantic musical comedy-drama film "Funny Girl" stars Barbra Streisand. This film is where she makes her film debut reprising her big Broadway role as Fanny Brice.

The film was directed by William Wyler and produced by Ray Stark. The film's screenplay was written by Isobel Lennart. It was adapted from her book with the same title. The book is loosely based on the life and career of Broadway and film star Fanny Brice. The 1968 film is clearly all about Fanny.

In the bittersweet musical drama, a vibrant and beautiful young Fanny Brice (Barbra Streisand) starts out as a bit player on the New York City vaudeville stage. She will work her way to stardom on Broadway. As a valued performer for her vocal and comedic talents Fanny shall do well. She is liked by the renowned theater impresario Florenz Ziegfeld (Walter Pidgeon). Her relationship with her suave, imprisoned businessman husband, Nick Arnstein (Omar Sharif), is quite a different story. Nick has a big problem; he is a very bad gambler.

The film and Streisand won critical praise. In addition to Streisand's Oscar win as Best Actress, the film was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Score of a Musical Picture - Original or Adaptation, Best Original Song, and Best Sound.
