In which ocean did the Titanic sink?

RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1912, after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. Of the estimated 2,224 passengers and crew aboard, more than 1,500 died, making it one of modern history's deadliest commercial marine disasters during peacetime.

The wreck of Titanic was discovered in 1985 (more than 70 years after the disaster) during a US military mission, and it remains on the seabed. The ship was split in two and is gradually disintegrating at a depth of 12,415 feet (3,784 m). Thousands of artefacts have been recovered and displayed at museums around the world.

John W Shreve, If the ship was going at a more regular speed, if the look out had binoculas, if the Titanic had struck head-on instead of sideways, if the gates hadn't have been locked, if the Captain had allowed the passengers of all status to leave, if the radio was manned 24/7 on every ship, if the Titanic had sufficient lifeboats so many many more people would have survived. The sinking of the Titanic, sad as it was, opened up so many more regulation on ship safety.

my mothers parents were booked to go to Canada on the titanic (steerage) but one of my uncles was found to have scarlet fever so they were,t allowed to go, my mum wasn't born then thank God for scarlet fever. mike.

After the tragic event of the Titantic the rule "Women and children first" was abolished, because so many families suffered tremendous hardships after loosing the men in the family, essentially the bread winner.

My great gran was 12 years old when it sank. She was the first baby born at the end of the Siege of Ladysmith 1900 March 1st, originally being a leap year it would have been the 29th Feb however as it was the turn of the centry it became the 1st of March.

I have been an ocean liner addict since I was 10 and saw the Queen Mary in Long Beach. I was in the 7th grade when I got my first copy of A Night To Remember by Walter Lord. By the time the movie came out in 1997 I had more books about Titanic that the local public library system had!! Of course interest peaked after the movire and our libraries acquired many more books. The time comment from Don Lynch was something that had never occurred to me. and makes perfect sense.

I recently saw a newer documentary about the Titanic that my brother had recorded, where Don Lynch (a Titanic historian who co wrote Titanic- an Illustrated History with Ken Marschall in 1992) said, that even if they had enough lifeboats-There was 16 standard lifeboats and 4 collapsible boats- it wouldn't have made a big difference., but there wasn't enough TIME. she sank in 2 hours and 40 minutes!! The last 2 collapsible washed off the ship as she was going under! One upside down.

Mark Yakabuski, Larry Jones. It's a valid question, I knew the answer, but you'd be surprised how many people think it sank in the Arctic, because of the icebergs. But then, not everyone's a genius like you two of course.
