In which Spanish city is the sculpture of the stray dog in the picture located?
One of the most haunting statues in Barcelona is the one that represents a skinny abandoned dog. Created by Artur Aldomà, the statue means to call people’s attention to the issue of animal abuse. This moving monument, dedicated to the abounded dogs (and other animals), shows a starving, sad-eyed dog. On the base of the monument is a text of a nice poem written by Margarita Grollero Euras.
Artur Aldomà Puig is Spanish painter and sculptor, he was born on 11 March 1935, in Reus, Tarragona, Spain.
The poem says:
'You do not need to talk so I understand
your look talks, your silence talks.
And the day you die, sweet and faithful friend,
your olive green eyes will continue looking at me
as a stars surrounded by peace from the sky.
Your breed does not matte, your name does not matter
your short life that you give to man
Is the faithful offering of this reinless love
that is in your look of a glowing flame
till the final and ignored journey of your unhappy life'.

I'm not really a 'Dog' type person, more of a cat lover. But pets are pets! How can ANYONE abuse a cat or dog, or any other kind of pet!! Our pets would do anything for us!! HATEFUL PEOPLE!!!

What a sad sculpture. I cannot understand cruelty to any animal, it just is beyond me.

There are statues of sad, abandoned dogs also in Oviedo (Asturias) and in Mexico city.

Humans domesticated dogs and cats, only to leave them starving and vulnerable. We have failed these precious animals over and over. For God's sake, have your animals fixed. And if you adopt an animal, treat them with love and respect. And know that you are responsible for them until the day they cross the rainbow bridge.

I couldn't stand to look at that sculpture everyday. It's heartbreaking. So many dogs and cats have to suffer; guess that's the reason I rescue them.

It makes me sad but the artist sounds like he was very aware is the issue of dog abuse. Some people should not be allowed to have dogs.

Jim Mascair, My sister got a 10 month old street stray from the RSPCA in Darwin. He is the sweetest natured dog. Not a nasty bone in his body.

We could use a statue or two here in the USA to remind all of us of our responsibility toward pets! I guess Sara Mclaughlin isn't enough! I've had pets all my life up until now,because I'm disabled and can barely take care of myself, but my son brings his cat with him when he visits,I call her my Furry granddaughter, he also has an eel he saved from being used for bait,that's my slimy Grandson!

Julie Brosz-Turney, I have been the honored owner of 2 Rottweilers and a dobbie! Couldn't have asked for more cuddlebugs! My husband trained them with love and respect, on both ends. I miss them all,except the husband! No bad dogs ever!

I guess I will never understand how people can abuse an animal of any size. I've had many of the "vicious" breeds aka Doberman Pischer and Rottweilers and they are the lovers of lovers IF, BIG IF, they are trained correctly. I miss the boy in my profile pic - Hot Rod, Rottweiler and Mastiff, as a rescue from the Humane Society, luckily as a puppy. Smartest dog I've ever owned and one of the best I've ever owned.

Linda Shaw, I agree. My daughter got chased and bit by a neighbor's dog, but I blame neither the dog nor the neighbor. Nor my daughter, for that matter! She was young (4 or so) and went running out in the front yard. My neighbor was working on her flowers with her dog in HER front yard. The dog saw someone running its way, towards its owner, and was defensive, thus attacking my daughter. The neighbor came running after to get the dog and explained it was a rescue dog that had been treated horribly by previous owners. Since she got the dog, she treated it with love and care and the dog had bonded with her and was very loyal. It saw someone they didn't know running at a person they loved, so naturally they were defensive.

Jim Mascair, my dog is a rescue. I found her 11 years. She has been a source of enjoyment, friendship, and loyalty. I thank God for her everyday. She's slowing down and I know I will have to say goodbye. However, I am a Christian and I know where I'm going. I also know she will be there waiting for me.
Yes, adopt a shelter animal. You will be so rewarded and that animal will love you unconditionally.
