In 2013, Florida State's Jameis Winston became the last player to win the Heisman Trophy and lead his team to the National Championship. The then red-shirt freshman guided the Seminoles over Auburn in the Rose Bowl. Winston threw for 3,820 yards, 38 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions during the season.

Winston was the MVP of the national championship game after completing 20 of 35 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns against Auburn to fuel Florida State’s rally from an early 18-point deficit.

Winston, who is currently the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL, was the 16th player to complete the Heisman/National Championship feat. Others who have done it include Pittsburgh's Tony Dorsett (1976), Army's duo of Doc Blanchard (1945) and Glenn Davis (1946), Michigan's Charles Woodson (1997), Auburn's Cam Newton (2010) and USC's Matt Leinhart (2004).

The Heisman Trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding college football player in the United States.
