Is it true that a rat can fall as far as 50 feet and land uninjured?
Well, probably you have already guessed that these creatures are able to survive a 50-foot fall without undergoing injury. There is also some evidence that they can swim up to 1.5 miles in open water. Moreover, they would survive even if they were flushed down the toilet! Tough creatures, aren't they?

I used to hate rats, but a friend had a couple of pet fancy rats, and though they'd never be my number one choice of pet (and my cat Checkmate would never let me have on!) I now appreciate them as intelligent and clean.

Ben, they are quite clean animals, and just about all animals can carry fleas, including humans!

Rats are dirty little creatures, no wonder they survive these far in their evolution. The bubonic plague cause by bacteria yersinia pestis that live in some animals mainly rodents and their fleas. I wouldn't make them pets unless I am so tired of living.

drmargiem, There is a big difference between a nice white, kept clean pet rat to one that is dirty, skinky and wild that sneaks around and eats anything it can find. In saying that I would never have a pet rat or mouse or hamster

Although I was initially against, my daughters had white hooded rats for pets which turned out to be so much better than hamsters, that lived to escape or bite. The pet store recommended them. What darling, intelligent, and loving pets they turned out to be. Never bit and they would sit on the girls shoulders while they studied. However, the large tree rats in our heavily tree lined neighborhood are another story.
