Alberto Tomba, also known as "La Bomba", (born 1966, San Lazzaro, Italy), is a former Alpine skier known for being a dominant technical skier (slalom and giant slalom) in the late 1980s and 1990s. At 1.82 m (6 ft.) and 90 kg (198 lbs.), his sturdy build was a contrast to the lighter, more traditional technical skiers who prioritized agility over muscle. Tomba was able to take advantage of the introduction of spring-loaded ski gates which replaced the older, solid gates in the early 1980s by using his power to maintain a faster, more direct line through courses.

In addition to his skiing achievements, Tomba was known for his flamboyant personality. The son of a wealthy Bolognese textile merchant, he cultivated a colorful playboy image off the slopes, but on the slopes he combined stylish grace and a risky, all-or-nothing aggression.

During his career, "La Bomba" won three Olympic gold medals, two World Championships, and nine World Cup season titles: four in slalom, four in giant slalom, and one overall title.

After retiring from competitions, Alberto Tomba made numerous appearances on Italian television broadcasts, and in 2000 he made his acting debut in the crime film "Alex l'ariete", directed by Damiano Damiani; the movie, however, was met with little success and was unanimously panned by movie critics.
