There are a number of personal lessons that can be learned from seeing the 1998 movie, "The Big Lebowski." The first lesson to be learned can be taken from the Dude (Jeff Bridges). Here’s a situation where a friend comes by asking for help. This isn’t just any friend, this also happens to be the landlord. Does one really see himself doing favors for the landlord? To top it off, Marty in this instance is someone who isn’t too sure of himself. It wouldn’t be too hard to stonewall him or just blow him off with a poor excuse. Nonetheless, in this situation, the Dude is true to his nature and comes through in a time of need. He agrees to attend Marty’s dance performance and help him out with a little constructive criticism.

The next lesson comes from Marty, the landlord. We all know how easy it can be to become a hero for someone. It’s not hard to help others, yet it can be hard to ask for help. It’s known that Marty doesn’t exactly project cool. He’s by no means in a league with the Dude, yet he still musters the courage to ask someone he looks up to for help. For a person like Marty, asking for help could be terrifying, humiliating, or even bothersome. Still simply asking for help isn’t really a big deal at all, but doing so allows someone else (The Dude) to feel needed.

By asking for help, it is a great way to accomplish a task or goal, or to fix a problem.
