In September 1995, John F. Kennedy Jr, in partnership with Michael J. Berman, the owner of a New York public relations firm, founded a monthly magazine "George".

The idea behind "George" was a politics-as-lifestyle theme. The magazine's motto was "Not Just Politics as Usual."

"George" was a radical change from previous political magazines which were geared more to people in and around the political arena. The concept of "George" was to mix concepts of celebrity, media with the subject of politics, in such a way that the average reader would find political information more interesting and enjoyable to read and easier to understand.

Initially, the magazine was widely accepted and even, for a time, had the largest circulation of any political magazine in the nation.

On July 16, 1999, John Kennedy Jr, his wife and sister-in-law were killed in a plane crash just off the coast of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. "George" printed its last issue less than two years later.
