"Just take those old records off the shelf / I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself" are lyrics from which song?
The 1978 song "Old Time Rock and Roll" has the lyrics "Just take those old records off the shelf / I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself". Music pundits tell us that "Old Time Rock and Roll" is a song written by George Jackson and Thomas E. Jones III, with lyrics by Bob Seger. His efforts however weren't publicly acknowledged at the time of release.
In April 1979, "Old Time Rock and Roll" by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position No. 72; seven weeks later in May 1979 the song peaked at No. 28 {for 2 weeks} and spent a total of 11 weeks on the Top 100 chart. In Canada, it reached No. 31 on the Canadian RPM 100 singles chart.
This popular song was track three of side one on the group's tenth studio album, "Stranger in Town". The album peaked at No. 4 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart.
'Billboard Magazine' stated that the song's highlights are Seger's "rough-edged vocals and the power charged instrumentation". This song is now a staple on classic rock radio. The American Film Institute's 100 Years...100 Top Songs in American Cinema poll, completed in 2004, ranked "Old Time Rock and Roll" No. 100. The song is featured in the 1983 film "Risky Business".
