Lightning never strikes twice in the same place.

You have probably heard this widespread saying. Would you be surprised to learn that it is actually a myth?

Lightning can strike any location more than once. More than this, the second striking is inevitable with enough time given to the Mother Nature.The striking may repeat within a single thunderstorm or a billion years after - lighting will strike the same spot not even twice, but several times. The electrical activity of the storm doesn't change with a strike, and the previously hit location is then just as fair game for the next discharge as any other spot.

This can be interesting: In June 2014 the Sears (Willis) Tower in Chicago was struck by lighting ten times in a row!

Actually each lighting bolt is made up of electricity that actually steikes from one hundred to a thousand times in one strike.

I remember a Mad Magazine comic strip, where this guy is standing under a tree during a thunder storm. Lightning strikes a nearby phone booth (it's something we had before cell phones, for the millennials!). Thinking that lightning never strikes the same place twice, the guy runs to the "safety" of the phone booth. Lightning strikes the tree, which falls on top the phone booth, with the guy inside!

I have heard that wearing rubber soled shoes can protect against lightning strikes as the electricity cannot earth. But that may or may not be true.

Uhh the whole point of a lightning rod is to make the lightning strike the rod instead of the building, therefore, the rod ( which is stationary) is struck many times over.
