According to Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars: Episode VI -- Return of the Jedi, 1983), 'truth' is simply a state of mind. He pointed out that a person should not be solid, stiff, and/or rigid. He indicated that your truth is not the next person’s truth. Truth is not always the same thing to each and every individual. Our reality is our own. Our beliefs are our own.

We are told that water as a logical proof is an example that truth has no solidly existence. For us, a glass of water is something to drink. To a fish, however, it is like air. To some creatures it might be like fire. So the “truth” that we may cling to is not the same truth for everyone.

Some critics and scientists say that the reason they like this quote is because many of the wars and horrible acts that occur on Earth are because people cling to their own solid ideas of truth. They see it in religion, race divisions, political party alliance, etc. If people take time to break down dogmas that they have been fed, they could see that truth is not the same truth for everyone. By recognizing this point of view, it could serve to bring people much closer together.
