"Murdoch Mysteries" is a TV series that takes place in 19th century Canada. The series specifically takes place in Toronto starting in 1895 and follows Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) of the Toronto Constabulary. He solves many of his criminal cases using methods of detection that were unusual at the time. These methods include fingerprinting (referred to as "finger marks" in the series), blood testing, surveillance, and trace evidence.
The series is based on characters from the "Detective Murdoch" novels by Maureen Jennings. It was developed for television by R.B. Carney, Cal Coons, and Alexandra Zarowny. The executive producers have been Scott Garvie, Noel Hedges, Cal Coons, and Christina Jennings. The show premiered on Citytv in January 2008, and currently is seen on the CBC Network. Besides Bisson, the TV cast includes Thomas Craig as Inspector Thomas Brackenreid, Hélène Joy as Dr. Julia Ogden, Jonny Harris as Constable George Crabtree, Georgina Reilly as Dr. Emily Grace, and Mouna Traoré as Rebecca James.
