"Murdoch Mysteries" is a TV series that takes place in 19th century Canada. The series specifically takes place in Toronto starting in 1895 and follows Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) of the Toronto Constabulary. He solves many of his criminal cases using methods of detection that were unusual at the time. These methods include fingerprinting (referred to as "finger marks" in the series), blood testing, surveillance, and trace evidence.

The series is based on characters from the "Detective Murdoch" novels by Maureen Jennings. It was developed for television by R.B. Carney, Cal Coons, and Alexandra Zarowny. The executive producers have been Scott Garvie, Noel Hedges, Cal Coons, and Christina Jennings. The show premiered on Citytv in January 2008, and currently is seen on the CBC Network. Besides Bisson, the TV cast includes Thomas Craig as Inspector Thomas Brackenreid, Hélène Joy as Dr. Julia Ogden, Jonny Harris as Constable George Crabtree, Georgina Reilly as Dr. Emily Grace, and Mouna Traoré as Rebecca James.

I see people are once again confusing an entertainment programme that uses historical themes, with a documentary, the absolute unreal use of societal norms and demographics are part of that entertainment.

Season six is set in the 20th century; finally, since the series begins in the 1890s!

I’ve not watched it, but I know it’s Canadian and set in the 19thC, it’s on free to air TV here in Oz too.

It's up to the 1910s with season 17. Too many episodes now it's difficult to keep it fresh without having repeated kidnappings of the main character and/or his wife and Murdoch near single handidly inventing everything years before they were in reality.

I used to love it but it had got abit ridiculous as time has gone on. Canada historically unwelcing to black, Asian, homosexuality etc. Murdocha Catholic too so not exactly the most open minded folks. I'm a Brit brought up a Catholic so sorry the rest of the world for historical horrors

Now moved into very early 20th Century. Did you know that Murdoch was indirectly responsible for many of the late 19th Centuries great inventions? HaHa. A great series.
