This is the flag of Canada used from 1957 to 1965: you can see the tiny maple leaves, which provide a clue. The Canadian Red Ensign had been unofficially used since the 1890s and was approved by a 1945 Order in Council for use "wherever place or occasion may make it desirable to fly a distinctive Canadian flag". The Royal Union Flag remains an official flag in Canada. The modern flag with a single maple leaf has been in use since 1965.
