Natural gas is lighter than air

Natural gas is Methane and this is lighter than air. The other compressed gases in use for cooking or camping (propane and butane) are heavier than air. Any methane that escapes rises into the upper atmosphere and is a potent greenhouse gas.

Yuri Tereshkova: If you know ANY chemistry, you would know what you said was wrong. Natural gas is primarily methane which has a molecular weight of 14. Air is mostly N2 and O2, the molecular weights are 28 and 32, respectively. So air is heavier than natural gas.

jack patti go, Really? Gas is expensive for you? Gas is much less expensive to heat your home than electricity. Trust me, from my personal experience? If you had an electric stove AND an electric heater? Your electric bill monthly would likely be about 4X as high. So, if your gas bill is say $100 per month? Your electric bill with everything electric? Would be about $400 per month. It's very possible, if you have a washer and dryer in your home? The dryer is most likely gas. Not always, but that seems more common. Also, if your furnace is gas? Your water heater might also be gas. Most of the time, in homes where one utility is gas, most of the rest are typically gas as well If you're feeling like your gas bill is super expensive? Check your home for air leaks that could be causing your heater to kick on more frequently than it might otherwise. If cold air is leaking in from the outside due to less than adequate or even proper insulation, or due to gaps at the bottoms of doors to the outside? Try to find things that will block the cold air from coming in, which will cause your heater to kick on more frequently than it needs to. Also check whether your water heater is gas or electric. Your monthly gas consumption could be increasing due to people taking long hot showers. But whatever the case, more often than not electricity bills for those same appliances would be even more staggering on a monthly basis. Gas is usually much more efficient and less expensive to use per month than electricity. If your gas bill seems too high? Check wherever you can and try to pinpoint things that might be quietly jacking your gas rates up every month. You might be surprised where some of the problems are coming from. Places you least expect. Like, do you have an attic in your house or your apartment? Is it properly and fully/efficiently insulated? If not? patrhea, Natural gas does not hug the floor, but propane gas does. However a natural gas leak inside an unventilated room would eventually fill the room with gas creating a bomb if ignited.
