The famous U.S. singer who died at the age of 22 in a plane crash was Aaliyah Dana Haughton (1979 – 2001). She was most often called Aaliyah by friends and family. But some of her nicknames included 'Baby Girl', "Li-Li", "Liyah", 'Princess Of R&B', and "Queen of Urban Pop".

In 1994 she married singer R. Kelly when she was 15. Their marriage was kept quiet and only revealed through court records. Aaliyah lied about her age on the marriage certificate, and the marriage was annulled when her parents found out. Besides her marriage, she released her first album "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number" when she was 15. It was produced by R. Kelly (singer, songwriter, record producer, and former professional basketball player).

During her career, she had the opportunity to act in movies. She was able to play Jet Li's love interest in the 2000 action movie 'Romeo Must Die". She also played a vampire (Akasha) in "Queen of the Damned" (2002).

A lot of Aaliyah's music was produced by Missy Elliot and Timbaland (Timothy Zachary Mosley). They were very good friends with Aaliyah. They are the individuals who most of the time used the nickname "Baby Girl".
