In the first twenty two films of the Eon Bond series, only "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and "Casino Royale", have ended with the central Bond girl deceased. In all other films, except Quantum of Solace and Skyfall, Bond is kissing her, making love, or implying that he will do so. Sometimes an embarrassed M catches Bond during his embraces. Most endings feature a double entendre and, in many of the films, the Bond girl purrs, "Oh, James."

In "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" Bond meets, falls in love with, and eventually marries Contessa Teresa di Vicenzo (Diana Rigg). Tragedy strikes on their wedding day, however, when Blofeld (villian of the film) and his henchwoman Irma Bunt shoot at Bond and Tracy in a drive-by shooting. Tracy is shot in the head and killed.

In "Casino Royale" Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) is an agent for HM Treasury assigned to supervise Bond and finance him in a high-stakes poker game. Gettler (an assassin in the film) takes her hostage and locks her in an elevator in a building in Venice. In Bonds battle with Gettler and his henchmen he causes the building to sink into the water which causes her to drown.
