In the 4th inning of the Braves home opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers, in front of a sellout crowd of 53,775 Henry "Hank" Aaron hit a 1-0 pitch from Al Downing over the left centerfield wall to surpass the previous record of 714 homeruns held by Babe Ruth.

Braves broadcaster Milo Hamilton made the call. "He's sitting on 714"… Here's the pitch by Downing. Swinging. Here's a drive into left centerfield. That ball is gonna be… outta here! It's gone! It's 715! There's a new homerun champion of all time, and it's Henry Aaron."

Aaron would go on to hit a combined 40 more homeruns over the remainder of the '74 campaign with the Braves and the 75-76 seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, ending his career with 755 homeruns.
