John Philip "Jack" McFarland is Will's (Eric McCormack's) best friend on the American NBC TV comedy show "Will & Grace". This show first ran from 1998 to 2006; it restarted its run on NBC in 2017. Jack (Sean Hayes) is also very close friends with Grace Adler (Debra Messing) and Karen Walker (Megan Mullally). They are all part of a very close knit group that routinely hangs out and loves to interact when dealing with personal and/or social matters. For most of the series, Jack is a struggling actor who jumps from job to job.

While Jack has been supporting his acting career, he became a cabaret singer in season one ('Just Jack' was Jack's one-night only open mic night cabaret performance at The Duplex). He has also had jobs in the series as a cage dancer, cater-waiter, backup dancer to Jennifer Lopez and then to Janet Jackson, an assistant to Grace, a candidate for a position in the Manhattan Gay Men's Chorus, a sales clerk at Banana Republic and Barney's New York, a student nurse, a surfer, a playwright[, a novelist, a commercial and theater actor, an acting teacher, a magician, a junior executive, and a talk show host at OUTtv, before ultimately being cast as the lead in the crime drama "The Badge" as Chuck Rafferty, a clever, tough, and hard-boiled detective.
