Waldo was a mynah bird belonging to Jacques Renault. It was present at the murder of Laura Palmer, having attacked her during her final moments. It was a key witness to the investigation, having remembered the phrase, "Leo, no!"
The mynah is a bird of the starling family (Sturnidae). This is a group of passerine birds which are native to southern Asia, especially India. Mynahs (tropical members of the starling family of birds) are renowned for their ability to mimic the human voice. It has been claimed that the hill mynah is the best talking bird and the best mimic in the world.

Here in Miami, we have feral mynah birds that escaped some kind of importer, and they have become a widely established, invasive species. Our many fruit trees and constant insect populations make Florida a grand place for them. They are remarkable mimics, like our native mockingbirds.
