On the Andy Griffith Show, what did Sheriff Andy Taylor limit to one for his deputy?

On the iconic Andy Griffith Show, Deputy Barnard Fife was a stickler for every city ordinance and regulation. He considered himself a well-read, well-trained, well-armed, hero-type lawman. In actuality, Barney was more bumbler than a hero. He had so many accidents with his gun that Andy required that he keep it unloaded.
