In the show,"Have Gun, Will Travel", professional gunfighter Paladin is a West Point graduate who, after the Civil War, goes to the city of San Francisco. He lives and works from the Hotel Carlton. He is there waiting for clients to respond to his business card. It is one where over the picture of a chess knight the following words are written: "Have Gun, Will Travel ... Wire Paladin, San Francisco."

''Have Gun, Will Travel,'' was produced by CBS from 1957 to 1963, and it became one of television's classic western series. As Paladin, Mr. Boone played a black-garbed, San Francisco-based gunslinger who was a no non-sense, clever, and hard hitting individual. He did what was necessary to handle any and all challenges.

In 1964, after the television series was canceled, Boone left Hollywood and went to live in Hawaii for seven years. Boone, who had been born in Los Angeles, was a seventh-generation nephew of the pioneer Daniel Boone.
