On the 1976 - 1978 U.S. TV show "Bionic Woman", Lindsay Wagner stars as professional tennis player Jaime Sommers. She becomes critically injured during a skydiving accident. Her life is saved by Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson) and Dr. Rudy Wells (Alan Oppenheimer). They have her healed by giving her bionic surgical implants similar to those of "The Six Million Dollar Man" Steve Austin (Lee Majors). Through the use of cybernetic implants, known as bionics, Jaime has an amplified bionic ear which allows her to hear at low volumes and at different frequencies from most humans. She can do this over very long distances. She also has extraordinary strength in her bionic right arm and in both legs. Thus she is able to run at speeds exceeding 60 miles per hour. She now makes a great spy, unlike any other!

Because of her changes, she is asked to do spy missions on her own as an occasional agent of the U.S. Office of Scientific Information. She will do this work while employed undercover as a school teacher for middle school students. She is forced to give up her love for tennis. Her enhanced body always gives her an advantage over others who have no bionic implants.

Grateful for being saved, Jamie agrees to work for the government. She will carefully put all her bionic skills to work on dangerous missions.
