In the TV series "Have Gun, Will Travel" (1957 -1963), Paladin (Richard Boone) is a gentleman gunfighter who working as a mercenary gunfighter travels all around the Old West, USA. People hire him to solve problems that they cannot solve. Paladin will charge steep fees to clients who can afford it. Typically, he is paid $1000 USA dollars per job. However, he will provide his services for free (i.e., pro bono) to poor people if he can correct (remedy) an injustice.

This western series would spotlight the eccentricities and excesses that Paladin enjoyed as a top (rich and prominent) member of the 1875 San Francisco society. Special attention was always given to the prices that he paid for the various luxuries that he had. As a man who was seen as a warrior and lived on the edge, he still had an enhanced daily life which included spacious living accommodations, hand tailored clothes (especially suits, coats, etc.), and gold-plated eating utensils.

Paladin worked hard and savored everything that made life worth living!
