When did the first Mormon pioneers arrive in the Salt Lake Valley?

Despite popular belief and Utah tradition, the first group of Mormon pioneers arrived on July 22, 1847, not July 24, 1847. Leader Brigham Young and his group arrived two days after the first group. It was when he sat up in his wagon from being ill and stated "This is the place!." That's why that date was recorded and declared the official arrival into the valley.

Good question but rubblish answer options for a quizz. A good question should at least give the quizzer a chance at a educated guess. Three of the answers were a year apart where they should be at least 10 years apart. Thats like asking the population of a country with the various options differing by a 100.

After a considerable search, I found one site that confirmed the 22 July 1847 date that "most of the party" first saw the Utah site. It further stated that Brigham Young didn't arrive until the 24th. When Young saw the location, he declared that it was the right place. Despite the earlier party, Utah celebrates 24 July as it's Pioneer Day.

Bernadette Robinson, no the first arrived on the 22nd. Young had been ill and arrived with some on the 24th. Read the link. Not hard to understand why he and those came later.
