Rick Springfield (Australian musician and actor) originated the role of Noah Drake, MD in 1981 on the U.S. TV daytime soap opera "General Hospital" (1963 – present). He played the character for two years before leaving to pursue his music career. He then lasted appeared in January 1983. Springfield was asked to return to the show in 2005 and first appeared in December 2005. The stay was originally planned to be 4 episodes, but the series asked Springfield to stay on longer. He continued appearing until August 2007. He returned again for a summer story arc the following year, from July 8 through September 2008. In 2012, Springfield made a guest appearance during Kimberly McCullough's exit storyline. In 2013, Springfield made an appearance to celebrate the show's 50th anniversary. Springfield also played himself, singing "Jessie's Girl" at the 2013 Nurses' Ball.

In the series as Drake, Springfield plays a fictional character who is a medical doctor working in a hospital in the midsize Eastern city of Port Charles. In 2007, Springfield also played Drake's look-alike, fictional rock star Eli Love.

As of 2022, Springfield (b. Richard Lewis Springthorpe, August 1949 in Guildford, New South Wales, Australia) is still acting, singing, songwriting. He may have enjoyed most of his success during the 1980s and 90s. He continues to write and record. Long removed from the Top 40 charts, he says he continues to put out music because he has something truly real to offer music lovers.
