Sonny Corleone (James Caan) in "The Godfather" (1972) is killed while sitting in a car at a toll booth. It was 7:30pm when he got killed, according to the clock at the toll booth location. Sonny was assassinated by family members of the Emilio Barzini's crew. His actual cause of death resulted from a machine gun ambush that he received while stopped at the Long Beach Causeway toll plaza.

Apparently in this crime film, one bullet to the head could not send a strong enough message to the Corleone family. After Sonny acted with help from his sister's abusive husband to remove a rival family's head, Sonny as the Corleone family's enforcer is ambushed by a swarm of hitmen flanking his car at the Long Beach toll booth in New York.

Even a super bulletproof vest would not have saved Sonny; he was greeted with a shower of bullets, which was the result of rounds and rounds of machine guns firing at the him. It was almost as if the gunmen (gangsters) were trying to spell the words "Death to Corleones" on his body with bullets. During this crime, it even looked like they keep misspelling words and forgetting to capitalize the "D" and "C". It looked as if they had to restart multiple times as they attempted to get it right.
