Late one evening, at the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, two Marines, Private First Class Louden Downey (James Marshall) and Lance Corporal Harold Dawson (Wolfgang Bodison) are arrested for assaulting and killing a fellow Marine. He was PFC William Santiago (Michael DeLorenzo).

In the film, Dawson and Downey are found not guilty. However, they are dishonorably discharged for "conduct unbecoming a U.S. Marine." Downey is confused, pointing out that Col. Jessup confirmed that they were obeying orders. Then, after getting over the initial shock, Dawson points out that they failed to stand up for those too weak to stand up for themselves (PFC Santiago).

As the defendants are leaving the courtroom, Lt. Kaffee tells Dawson he doesn't have to be a soldier to have honor. Dawson, who had previously refused to salute Kaffee, who he saw as a coward, now announces "There's an officer on deck!" They exchange salutes. Respect was learned.

This 1992 film, "A Few Good Men," is a film directed by Rob Reiner, starring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, and Demi Moore. It is about an intelligent, engaging, and thought provoking military murder investigation and high profile general court martial. Cruise (Lt. Junior Grade Daniel Kaffee) is playing a JAG (Judge Advocate General's) officer against Nicholson (Col. Nathan R. Jessup) where he is a pompous marine colonel, who tells us in perhaps the film's most infamous quote: "You can't handle the truth." Here the truth was not suppressed.
