The 1964 Elvis Presley film where Raquel Welch made her big screen debut was titled "Roustabout". Welch plays a college girl who will meet Charlie Rogers played by Elvis Presley, a singer who takes a job working with a struggling carnival.

At first, Charlie Rogers (Presley) loses his job at a coffee shop after getting into a fight with some snooty college boys after his music set had finished. Next, a highway run-in with Maggie Morgan (Barbara Stanwyck), the owner of a traveling carnival on the brink of bankruptcy, leads Charlie to take a job with the struggling group of skilled entertainers. While his singing starts to turn the show's finances around, his attempted romance with teenage Cathy (Joan Freeman) leads to friction with her protective father (Leif Erickson).

"Roustabout" is an American musical feature film that was produced by Hal Wallis and directed by John Rich from a screenplay by Anthony Lawrence and Allan Weiss. The screenplay was nominated for a Writers Guild of America award for best written American musical although "Roustabout" received an unenthusiastic review in 'Variety'.
