The fictional character known as "The Saint" had the real name Simon Templar. He was first featured in books (1928 - 1983) by novelist Leslie Charteris. Starting in the mid-1960s, other authors collaborated with Charteris to produce books until 1983. Two additional books were produced without Charteris's participation in 1997. Later the character was portrayed in motion pictures, radio dramas, comic strips, comic books, and three television series.

When "The Saint" (1962 - 69) as a UK series began, Roger Moore was seen as the perfect guy to play Simon Templar. This period was a benchmark in the lifespan of the character, and it was a stepping stone for Moore (In films he became 007, James Bond, the well known fictional spy and man of action, fighting crime all over the world).

In the TV series "The Saint", it featured thrilling acts of fearlessness, beautiful places (and people), and a sly wit by Templar, which ran in 118 episodes on TV. The star was a modern day Robin Hood and a wealthy man of mystery. He was also a debonair rogue, who never failed to be a clever 'saint'. Simon Templar as 'The Saint' thrilled adventure aficionados with his daring exploits. Nowhere was his actions more indelibly realized than in the well developed UK television series.
