Spondylitis affects which part of the body?

Spondylitis is an inflammation of the vertebra. It is a form of spondylopathy. In many cases spondylitis involves one or more vertebral joints as well, which itself is called spondylarthritis.

Spondylitis is one of the most common causes of back and neck pain, and results from inflammation of the vertebral joints. The condition is often not detected until it has fully developed and is causing pain. The pain is usually concentrated around the cervical region of the neck, shoulder and lower spine, with downward-moving stinging pain.

Pott's disease is a tuberculous disease of the vertebrae marked by stiffness of the vertebral column, pain on motion, tenderness on pressure, prominence of certain vertebral spines, and occasionally abdominal pain, abscess formation, and paralysis.

Ankylosing spondylitis is an inflammatory disease involving the spine and sacroiliac joints, and is therefore also a form of spondylarthritis.

I had been living with ankylosingspondylitis for years. I KNOW the pain!! I finaly got my doctor (not very good) to refer me to a rheumatologist who is excellent! The medication I was put on ( Once weekly injection) has eliminated my pain. I won't name the medication, so you won't think I'm trying to sell anything, but there IS relief out there.

Knew. My father had ankylosing spondylitis. Caused him much pain eased by ballroom dancing and sunshine.

Easiest question I have seen. Am 76 and had symptoms since I was 16 with pains in my legs after a cross country race. Naval doctor said I had pulled a muscle. This continued until I was 21 and walking very badly. Naval Instructor officer used to call me the Spastic! Friends were very worried and told me to see an Osteopath who immediately diagnosed Ankylosing Spondylitis. After treating me for a couple of months he told me to report to the Sick Bay on my ship. He had obviously phoned the Naval Hospital, Hasler and when I went there I saw the top Orthopaedic surgeon who was furious that none of the Naval surgeons I had seen over a 5-6 year period had diagnosed it. I was invalided out of the Navy and later discovered that a complete overhaul of the Orthopaedic department was carried out.

Brian Howe, just like many other things we are what we eat in many cases. I have a female issue cause by just that yet caffeine causes it in others. I get to keep my chocolate and Coffee but meats and dairy (animal fats) have to go except in minimal amounts
