The Billy Joel hit "My Life" was used as the theme song for the (1980–82) U.S. sitcom "Bosom Buddies". The song "My Life" was used on the ABC television series, albeit with a different vocalist in a re-recorded version different from the one by Joel. The re-recorded version featured Gary Bennett along with Mike Lucas on the piano.

In the series, Kip (Tom Hanks) and Henry (Peter Scolari) work at an advertising agency. They an artist and writer respectively. The two best friends live in an apartment building which is about to be demolished. Desperate for a place to live, they transform themselves into Buffy and Hildegarde so they can live in the "for-women-only" Susan B. Anthony Hotel.

All of the elements used on "Bosom Buddies" such as its music (theme songs) and story lines come together to support and make Hanks and Scolari's spontaneous chemistry work well on the show. Their actions are enjoyable to see and hear in the giddy comedy situations, physical moments, and ad-libbed asides.
